Eyefi Mobi SD Cards Add Wi-Fi To Your Camera

Put an Eyefi Mobi SD memory card in your camera and the Eyefi app on your Smart Phone to add Wi-Fi connectivity to your camera.

If you read my camera reviews and buying guides regularly then you know many digital cameras now have built-in Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi allows you to wirelessly transfer photos and videos to your Smart Phone so you can share them to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. But what if you don’t want or can’t afford a new camera? Is there a way to add Wi-Fi to your current DSLR, mirrorless or point-and-shoot camera? Why, yes there is! You can add Wi-Fi to your camera with the Eyefi Mobi card. The $50 Eyefi Mobi is more than just a class 10 SD memory card, it also allows you to instantly transfer photos from your camera to your Smart Phone.

The Eyefi Mobi Card Puts Wi-Fi In Any Camera

Add Wi-Fi to your favorite camera with the Eyefi Mobi SD memory card.

I love cameras with built-in Wi-Fi. But a few years ago, before I owned a camera with Wi-Fi, I had an Eyefi card in my point-and-shoot. With the Eyefi app installed on my Smart Phone, I’d take a picture, wirelessly transfer it to my phone, process it with my favorite photo editing app, then upload to Facebook, right from the trail.

Eyefi Mobi Memory Card - How Does It Work?

A simple diagram of the how the Eyefi Mobi SD memory card’s Wi-Fi works.

Why not just take pictures with your phone? Camera phones are pretty incredible – for phones. But there are a whole bunch of reasons why a “real” camera is still better. Some of the important benefits of a real camera are better optics, zoom lenses, manual exposure control, better image quality, better ergonomics, etc. And with the Eyefi card, you can use whatever digital camera you want and still be able to share your photos, on the spot. Watch the Eyefi marketing video below to get a better idea how it works. The video is a couple of years old and the card label looks a little different but it works the same.

The Eyefi Mobi SD card comes in 8 and 16 GB capacities and lets you instantly transfer photos and videos from your camera to your Smart Phone, tablet, computer. If that’s not enough, the 32 GB Eyefi Mobi Pro card adds RAW transfer and selective file transfer capabilities. It will also connect to your home Wi-Fi network and includes a one year Eyefi Cloud storage subscription. I haven’t used the new Eyefi Mobi cards or the most recent version of the Eyefi mobile app so I can’t speak to their performance. My experience with the Eyefi Pro X2 memory card was generally positive, although I did find it a bit more complicated and nitpicky than using a camera with built-in Wi-Fi. On the other hand, the Eyefi card is a whole lot cheaper than a new camera and it served me well for quite a while.

So if you want to improve the quality of the photos you share on social networks or you want to stop taking two photos – one with your real camera, and then one with your phone to share on Facebook – the Eyefi Mobi card is a great solution. An 8 GB Eyefi Mobi SD card only costs $50 and the Mobi Pro card costs $100. That’s a whole lot easier on the bank account than buying a new camera.
